THE MICKLE HIKER/BIKER POD

It can come complete with either mains electric or solar power, whichever is most suitable for the site. Ideal for Farm Diversity as can be classed as a mobile structure, so may not need planning. HOW A PRIVATE BUSINESS USED THE CUMBRIA INNOVATIONS PLATFORM'S RESOURCES TO BOOST ITS PRODUCT

The family-run Pennine Pods has used the innovative technology and expertise that the Cumbrian Innovations Platform offers to gain an insight into the performance of their building materials. Pennine Pods, based at High Hesket, collaborated with students from Lancaster University who
tested their materials by scientific measurement. The data they collected is beneficial for the  ompany's reputation and the consumers' confidence in their products. Ian Hunter, Pennine Pods
managing director, said he was delighted with the outcome of the project. He said: "This work
helped the company to produce and qualify a truly unique product in the form of a mobile glamping pod that can go into different environments and temperature extremes across the planet. "The student team were friendly, helpful and competent and we had a thoroughly positive experience working with the engineering department at Lancaster University." The Cumbria Innovations Platform is a collaborative project part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), and is available to ERDF eligible businesses. The aim is to support senior decision makers of small and medium-sized businesses in Cumbria, and provide access to equipment and expertise in the industries of science, technology, computing, engineering and management at Lancaster University and the University of Cumbria. Pennine Pods is just one example of how the project has enabled a local business to validate the positive claims about their products, enhancing their brand.

We like to name our pods after the Pennine Hills and The Mickle is the smallest Pennine Hill. Our Hiker/Biker Pod is aptly named and sleeps two in comfort (4'10" x 7'10"). Available in March for only £3,295.

Cumbria Innovations Platform

Cumbria Innovations Platform is an initiative that helps businesses access technical and management expertise from Lancaster University and the University of Cumbria.

We collaborated with Lancaster University in 2017 who tested our materials and construction by way of scientific measurement.

The data has been highly beneficial in the development of Glamping Pods which can cope with and fit into more extreme and different environments.
